Description: Inspired by the native of the Isla Escudo de Veraguas in Panama, this T-shirt is produced as one of the ways to raise awareness and to conserve the unique three toed pygmy sloth, which numbers less than 500 in the world and is listed as critically endangered.

Made of 100% organic cotton, the proceeding of this T-shirt will be donated to The TREE Foundation as a fund for the conservation of the three toed pygmy sloth in Isla Escudo.

The Tree Shirt House specializes in creating unique, wildlife story-telling organic cotton T-shirts for a cause. The brand only produces 500 T-shirts per design and color and donates a certain amount of proceedings to wildlife charities.

This product is produced using cotton that is certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).

GOTS is the worldwide textile processing standard for organic fibres, which also includes ecological and social criteria.

25. Has the company taken steps to reduce the chemicals used in the product or service?

The company did their due diligence in working with a manufacturer that is certified under GOTS, and not using any harmful inputs such as toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents, functional nano particles, and genetically modified organisms.

The company is committed to be a socially responsible business. Each T-shirt designed by The Tree Shirt House is mostly based on a story of an endangered wild animal, and USD$5 is donated to the animal’s cause for every T-shirt sold.

The company also ensures that the manufacturer of the T-shirts is compliant with FairTrade and GOTS standards.

The company keeps their production regional to reduce carbon footprint, reduces energy consumption in their office and prints their name cards on recycled paper.

The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 provides the textile and clothing industry with a globally uniform standard for the objective assessment of harmful substances. Raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of processing throughout the manufacturing chain, including accessories, are tested and certified.

Etrican believes in environmental and social responsibility. The company uses mainly organic cotton certified by GOTS, which one of the social criteria is to have a policy for social accountability to ensure that the social criteria can be met.

Etrican’s accessories are handmade with the help of GtG, a non profit organisation in India offering fair employment to people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

In addition, Etrican’s gifts range are handmade or hand painted by a group of deaf and other physically challenged people employed by Silence, a centre for socio-economic rehabilitation based in India.

Etrican’s founders, Yumiko and Dragos are actively involved in community activities as participating vendors or sponsors for events such as Re-Live by Eco Singapore, Project Pebbles, Green Carnival by NUS SAVE or Clean and Green Singapore.

The organic cotton T-shirt feels the same as normal cotton shirts, I feel comfortable wearing it and it absorbs sweat easily without being sticky. Love how Etrican reduces plastics by using a shirt tag made of recycled paper and attached to the shirt with a string and safety pin.
